William Quaitoo, Deputy Agric Minister Resigned After tribalistic Comments

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Mr. William Quaitoo has reportedly resigned with immediate effect according to a release from the presidency.

Earlier, the minister came under fire from both member of the opposition National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party after making some tribalistic comments. Mr. Quaitoo had since apologized after suggesting farmers in the northern part of the country could not be trusted on claims about the destruction wreaked by the Fall Armyworm on their farms. A release signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the Presidency, stated that President Nana Addo has officially received the resignation of the minister.

The release stated that Nana Addo accepted the resignation and it took immediate effect.

“The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, this evening accepted the resignation from office of the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Hon. William Quaitoo, MP, which takes immediate effect”, the release said.

“The President wished him the very best in his future endeavours”, it continued. The Minority in Parliament had earlier demanded the immediate dismissal of Deputy Agriculture Minister, William Quaitoo from the government over disparaging comments he made against northerners.
